2017

On 25 April 2015, Nepal was shaken by a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake. In the Kathmandu Valley, many buildings were severely damaged and entire villages were destroyed.

In October 2016, Michael Geier from the Gruner AG Structural Design Department was invited to Kathmandu as an expert and appraiser of structural earthquake damage by the Prabina Foundation for Nepalese children and adolescents in need.

Among other assistance projects, the Prabina Foundation operates a girls’ house where more than 20 girls between the ages of 3 and 16 live with their caregivers. The inhabitants were understandably concerned about the visible damage to the building that arose during the earthquake. The task of the expert was to assess the severity of the damage and to propose appropriate renovation and reinforcement measures that can be carried out by local craftsmen with the materials and know-how available in Nepal. Gruner AG Basel donated the cost of the worked hours to this good cause.

Christmas campaign: At the Gruner Group, it has become a tradition to dedicate our official Christmas campaign to supporting a social project rather than sending out client gifts. During a one-week project in October, for example, 10 Gruner Group apprentices assisted in the construction of a stable for a family of mountain farmers in Davos, Graubünden.

The campaign, which was completed in collaboration with the Coordination Office for Work Assignments in the Mountain Region (KAB), was met with keen interest among the apprentices. The assignment was used as an opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge directly into practice while serving a good purpose at the same time. Our “next-generation staff” were highly motivated and completed various construction works under the professional guidance of Gruner AG Senior Construction Manager Urs Dill. The apprentices’ feedback on the campaign was universally positive: The cross-company networking, professional cooperation at the construction site and hospitality of the mountain farmer family were just as appreciated as the opportunity so socialize during the course of the assignment.

We would like to thank the apprentices and the team leader for their great contribution in the name of the Gruner Group!

2016

Fun and Games Thanks to Gruner GmbH, Stuttgart. On the 25th of July, the time had finally come: Together with Friedhelm Köhnen of svt Brandschutz GmbH, Carsten Willmann of Gruner GmbH, Stuttgart, was able to hand the child care center Regenbogenkinder-garten Leinfelden-Echterdingen a check for 500 euros.

The sum stems from a surplus of the participation fees for a fire safety event on April in Stuttgart and was generously rounded up. The donation will be used for urgently needed toys.

2015

Gruner‘s goodwill at Christmas: This autumn, 12 Gruner Group apprentices provided willing hands-on assistance to a family of farmers in Says, Graubünden, helping them to erect a new barn. We aim to make this type of active support a Christmas tradition at Gruner instead of gifting presents to its customers and partners. The Koordinationsstelle Arbeitseinsätze im Berggebiet (Coordination centre for work assignments in mountain regions, KAB) assisted us inselecting our project.

2014

Instead of sending Christmas gifts to its customers and partners, Gruner is making 2014 a donation to the “Schweizer Patenschaft für Berggemeinden” charity.

For nearly 75 years, the “Patenschaft für Berggemeinden” charitable foundation has undertaken projects to strengthen solidarity between Switzerland’s lowland and Alpine regions.
The Gruner Group’s donation will go towards the rehabilitation of the drinking water supply system in the municipality of Surava (Canton of Graubünden). There is no doubt that a reliable water supply is essential for a healthy community and a functioning economy. For further details of this project and other opportunities to donate, please visit:
