Lützelmurg viaduct, Aadorf
Widening and rehabilitation
The twin bridges of the Lützelmurg viaduct on the N1 freeway are approx. 224 m long and 30 m high. The bridges were widened as part of the UPlaNS (national highway maintenance planning) program for the N1/N7 section between Ohringen and the Canton of Zurich/Thurgau border. Widening the carriageway decks necessitated the insertion of an additional longitudinal girder for each bridge (Watch the video here). The new girders were hoisted in large segments onto the previously widened abutments and piers. The existing foundations likewise required widening and strengthening by piles. The difficult subsoil conditions additionally necessitated comprehen-sive excavation support measures. The project also included various rehabilitation works to the bridges, including the installation of new waterproofings and surfacings plus the replacement of other components.
The services provided by Gruner Wepf AG, St.Gallen covered design, tendering and site supervision.
