Monitoring; Extension and renovation
While Kunstmuseum Basel (Basel Museum of Art) was being extended, the opportunity was taken to upgrade its seismic safety. During the critical construction phases (demolition, removal of existing buildings, pile driving, etc.) the work had a major impact on ongoing operations at the museum, on the exhibits and works of art and on the restorers' activities.
Gruner Ltd was commissioned to plan and conduct vibration monitoring during these phases. The five-sensor monitoring system was used primarily to protect the sensitive works of art and ensure that the restorers could work in tolerable conditions, and secondarily for structural monitoring.
