New Buildings of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital
The Bavaria channel (combined sewage channel) crosses under the site for the new buildings of the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital and must therefore be rerouted in advance. Due to the inner-city location as well as the high number of existing utility lines, the approximately 180-meter-long new channel is being con-structed using a microtunneling process.
The diameter of the new channel is 1.8 meters. Due to the precarious subsoil, the three round shafts were created using a Soilcrete process. The shafts have a diameter of 8 meters and a depth of up to 8.5 meters. Currently, pipe jacking for the first 70 meters of the channel is underway.
