Bergbach viaduct, St. Gallen
The Bergbach viaduct near St. Gallen on the N1 freeway was built between 1970 and 1974. It consists of two parallel composite bridges, each 440 m long. Due to the poor condition of the anti-corrosion finishes to the steelwork, the Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has decided to have them completely renewed. The project also includes repairs to the panel web concrete. Site operations are complicated by the presence of PCB-bearing seals, which necessitate special safety measures. The rehabilitation works are scheduled for completion in 2017. The new protective finish is designed for a 40-year service life.
