After many years of study, the construction of Khudoni Dam and HEPP started in the 1980’s. Due to political instability in the region and some technical concerns, the construction was halted in the early 1990’s. The feasibility study conducted by Stucky Ltd recommends developing a hydropower project at the same site that has been the focus of numerous studies and construction efforts over the last 30 years.
The project will have a capacity of 702 MW. The main elements of the project are a 202.5 m high double curvature arch dam and an underground powerhouse housing three Francis turbines of 234 MW each. The project will take an estimated 6 years to construct.
