Pumped-Storage Plant Limmern
Expansion Mountain Station Construction Cableway
To ensure the supply of peak energy from storage power plants, Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG (KLL) built a new pumped-storage plant with a turbine output of 1,000 megawatts between the Limmernboden reservoir and the Muttsee in the Canton of Glarus. The heart of the plant is the central power station Limmern, which includes an underground machine and transformer cavern 1,700 meters above sea level.
In order to ensure the construction logistics and supply of the various construction sites, an existing tunnel had to be expanded in the area of the Chalchtrittli mountain station and new tunnels had to be excavated. All construction elements are located in the anchoring area of the construction cableway. For the following construction elements, rock mechanics investigations were carried out:
• Expansion of existing access tunnel 0: A new = approx. 80 m2
• Construction of a new turning bay: A = ca. 65 m2
• Construction of a new heating channel: A = ca. 15 m2
• Securing of transition area ZS0/turning bay
Project period: 2009 - 2010
Services as subplanner: Project author structural underground works for the phases design, tendering, implementation
