On the basis of various treaties concluded as of 1852 between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the Swiss Confederation, Deutsche Bahn AG (German Federal Railways) operates a number of rail lines on Swiss territory. Rail infrastructure subsidiary DB Netz AG ensures that all operations respect Swiss sovereignty.
