Marriage of architecture and functional design

Actelion commissioned Gruner AG to carry out the general planning of the laboratory building designed by Herzog & de Meuron that was constructed on the plot next to the H91 research building. Because of functional, design and economic reasons, the architectural concept envisioned the integration of the laboratory building with the office building G06 to form a comprehensive unit. The laboratory layouts were developed by Gruner AG in close collaboration with the client, and the complex plumbing systems for the laboratory and technology rooms were devised together with specialist planners.

The new laboratory building houses 55 labs with adjoining rooms, cubicles and technology rooms for chemistry and biology.
