Mobility and transport planning
Traffic engineering
At Gruner, we use state-of-the-art methods to collect, analyse and model traffic data. For planned construction projects and traffic measures that have not yet been implemented, we can estimate, extrapolate and model future traffic volumes. Capacity analyses enable data-driven optimisation of transport infrastructure.

Traffic surveys
Reliable data provides the foundation for robust planning. We carry out the required surveys and analyse the resulting data, for example local turning movement counts at junctions or traffic surveys conducted over longer periods along road sections. Various survey methods are used, including side-fire radar devices.
Traffic data enables us to analyse speeds, traffic volumes according to time of day and season, vehicle categories and noise emissions, among other factors. These analyses help determine whether measures are required. The data also provides the basis for capacity analyses and traffic simulations. Surveys can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of implemented measures, such as 30 km/h zones.
Traffic simulations
Specialist software enables realistic modelling of complex traffic situations, including junctions, entire road sections, construction sites and planned measures. Parameters such as waiting times at junctions, queue lengths and journey times can be simulated and analysed precisely.
Compared with static calculations of these parameters, simulation offers the significant advantage of taking exceptional situations, interdependencies, random behaviour and feedback effects into account.
Capacity analyses
Capacity analyses carried out in connection with development projects frequently show that transport networks are approaching their capacity limits. Coordinated transport concepts are required to maintain functionality while operating the system as efficiently as possible. We analyse transport infrastructure and assess junction capacity to develop optimal junction solutions.
