New Head of Buildings
A great deal of management and industry experience for Gruner: Stephan Gürtler is the new Head of the Buildings business area and successor to Kurt Rau at Gruner since May 2, 2020.
After various positions in management and construction, Stephan Gürtler joined Gruner. Prior to that, the 59-year-old was CEO of a construction group in northwestern Switzerland. In the course of his career, Stephan Gürtler acquired extensive knowledge and experience in managing construction and general contractors. Multilingual Stephan Gürtler is a production engineer and industrial engineer. As Head of the business area Buildings, he is a member of the Gruner Executive Committee.
Kurt Rau, who will retire at the end of June 2020, has been part of Gruner for 36 years. He started as a partial project manager in Basel, managed countless projects in Switzerland and abroad, and took over overall project management for large buildings such as the new exhibition center in Basel. Gruner owes a lot to Kurt Rau. Both as a project manager and as a manager in many positions, he has helped Gruner to develop further.

New tram tracks above Basel’s underground river
The tram tracks at Basel’s Market Square are being renewed, while the stops are being upgraded to provide barrier-free access on behalf of the Department of Construction and Transport of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Gruner is responsible for planning the new tram tracks and is supporting the challenging construction work.

Fire safety on Mount Titlis: exceptional conditions at 3,020 metres
As part of the renovation and expansion project on Mount Titlis, the Titlis Tower opened in June 2026, with the new Titlis Peak Station to follow in 2029. Gruner is responsible for fire safety for this major project designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The unique conditions at more than 3,000 metres above sea level place particularly high demands on fire safety.
