On Behalf of Your Comfort

At Schilthorn - Piz Gloria, once a film set for James Bond, a complete renewal of the Schilthornbahn is imminent. Gruner is responsible for sustainable building services in the mountain stations.

Gruner is once again involved in planning the premium excursion destination Schilthorn. As early as 1963, Gruner took over the site management for the development of the Schilthorn, and a little later the planning and realization of the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant. And now again: Gruner is planning the building services for all four mountain stations as part of the large-scale complete renewal "Schilthornbahn 20XX".

In doing so, Gruner is relying on sustainable planning. In future, for example, the waste heat generated by the ropeway drives will be converted into heating energy. In the summer months, the waste heat must be dissipated in a controlled manner so that the electrical components do not overheat. The exposed location of the mountain stations is taken into account in the design of the heating, ventilation and sanitary systems.

At the heart of the project is more capacity without any loss for locals and guests. In the future, the transport capacity will be increased from 350 to 800 people per hour. With fewer transfers and 25 percent more space per guest, the ropeway operators are nevertheless ensuring a more comfortable excursion experience.

Once the longest ropeway in the world, the new maximum gradient of 160 percent makes it the steepest ropeway in the world. In comparison: the gradient of the world's currently steepest ropeway in Norway is 133 percent.
