Gruner acquires building services engineering consultancy in Germany

As part of its growth strategy, Gruner takes over Waidhas, an established building services engineering consultancy based in Chemnitz that operates throughout Germany.

With retroactive effect from January 1, 2024, Gruner is taking over the building services design consultancy Waidhas. As part of its growth strategy, Gruner is thus significantly expanding its German business both in terms of areas of activity and geographically.

With this transaction, the "Planungsbüro Waidhas" in Chemnitz is settling its succession planning and thus ensuring continuous management and stability at an early stage. The office's services primarily include energy studies, as-built analyses and planning of technical building services as well as medical and laboratory technology. The engineering office has completed more than 400 projects and has excellent references and a good market position. With Gruner, the business is to be expanded geographically.

Gruner has been present in Germany since 1993 and today offers engineering services in various areas at its seven locations. The acquisition is based on the strategic expansion of the building services business in the healthcare sector, which got off to a successful start with the acquisition of two hospital construction projects in southern Germany and supports the growing demand for healthcare facilities in Germany.

The Waidhas design consultancy will continue to operate as an independent Business Unit within Gruner, fulfilling the current contracts and implementing all existing and planned projects to the usual high quality and with the same contact partners. These will benefit from the support of Gruner employees in Germany and internationally as required. At the same time, Gruner will gradually offer the services of the Waidhas consultancy at its own sites and supplement them with its own services.

Marc Fontolliet is the new Head of Buildings at Gruner

Marc Fontolliet has joined the Gruner Executive Committee as Head of the Buildings Business Area, effective from the new year. He succeeds Stephan Gürtler, who is stepping down from the Executive Committee as part of the regular succession process at Gruner and will now focus on management and project tasks in general building planning. Simultaneously, Christian Nolte becomes a member of the Gruner Executive Committee as the new CFO and Head of the Business Service Center.
