Renovation and redevelopment of the Frenkendorf-Füllinsdorf bus station

The existing Frenkendorf-Füllinsdorf bus station no longer met today’s standards for comfort, safety and accessibility. On behalf of the Basel-Landschaft Civil Engineering Office, Gruner developed the construction project based on a preliminary design it had drawn up itself, and oversaw the project from the design stage through the permission process and the tendering procedure right through to construction and site management.

At the heart of the project was the functional and barrier-free redesign of the bus station, as well as the optimisation of connections between buses and trains. The new facility comprises four platforms, three of which are in regular use and one of which serves as a drop-off point. All kerb edges were constructed in accordance with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG). By realigning Güterstrasse, the space required for the new bus station was created. 

Particular emphasis was placed on durable construction methods. All areas traversed by buses were constructed with a concrete surface that can permanently withstand the high stresses caused by acceleration, braking and stopping manoeuvres and is significantly more resilient than asphalt. In addition, utility pipes and cables were replaced, tactile and visual guidance systems for visually impaired people were installed, 57 cycle parking spaces were created, and modern LED lighting, new trees and contemporary facilities including seating and information pillars were put in place.
 
The phased implementation has resulted in a robust, accessible and future-proof transport hub that will meet the requirements of modern public transport in the long term.
