Capacity Enhancement of Basel Marshalling Yard

Module 6 and Module 7

The scope of Modules 6 and 7 includes major expansion and modernisation measures within the L and D groups of the marshalling yard. Module 6 (L Group) increases operational capacity through the construction of additional locomotive stabling tracks. The works include approximately 1,900 m of new railway tracks, including 8 new turnout terminations, buffer stops and various track and railway crossing facilities.

Module 7 (D Group) involves extending the D Group on both sides to increase usable track lengths. The project includes the construction of approximately 4,000 m of new tracks and turnout connections as well as a total of 23 turnouts. In addition, extensive railway systems are renewed or upgraded, new brake testing facilities are installed, and the existing turning area and disposal facility of SBB Cargo are relocated and adapted. The project also includes the construction of new access roads and parking facilities, including associated retaining structures and drainage systems, as well as the construction or modification of the Rothausstrasse road underpass.
