Gruner merges Waidhas and Gruner Germany – new structure strengthens market presence

Basel / Hamburg, 1 January 2026 – In 2026, Gruner will merge Gruner Waidhas GmbH in Chemnitz and Gruner GmbH in Leipzig into Gruner Deutschland GmbH, headquartered in Hamburg. With this step, the Swiss engineering consultancy brings its German locations together under a single legal entity and simplifies its organisational structure. Short decision-making paths across all disciplines and locations in Germany enable Gruner to consistently deliver on its customer promise: everything from a single source – in designing, engineering and consulting.

Gruner is simplifying its structures and expanding its activities in Germany: effective 1 January 2026, the globally active Swiss planning and engineering company headquartered in Basel will merge Gruner Deutschland, based in Hamburg, Gruner GmbH in Leipzig and Gruner Waidhas GmbH in Chemnitz. The merger is part of the continued development of Gruner’s “Germany 2030” strategy. “The merger strengthens our market visibility and technical foundation while shortening decision-making processes,” says CEO Olivier Aebi. “It allows us to further develop our clearly positioned service offering and organisational structure in the German market.”

Customers benefit from a broader range of services

Gruner acquired the Waidhas engineering firm, specialised in building services engineering, in 2024. Through the merger, Gruner will in future jointly use personnel, infrastructure and financial resources and standardise processes across locations.
“The merger facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration and improves coordination between teams,” says Manuel Tiedemann, Managing Director of Gruner Deutschland. “This enables us to make decisions more quickly and respond more flexibly to market changes.”

Through a unified management organisation, customers will gain access to an expanded portfolio of services – ranging from fire safety and structural design to building services engineering and expert inspection services.

Merger supports Gruner’s growth strategy in Germany

With this merger, Gruner is pursuing its growth objectives in Germany and will gradually develop the new entity into an organisation with around 200 employees and revenues of more than EUR 20 million. The company focuses on interdisciplinary planning, technical excellence and sustainable solutions.

In doing so, Gruner is strengthening its position in the German market and reinforcing its close integration with the internationally active Gruner Group, headquartered in Basel.
