Where curiosity becomes the future

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February 2026 draws attention to a topic with a future. At Gruner, the story of one of our student employees shows how early support, trust, and opportunities can inspire young women to pursue technical careers.

The screen lights up, lines appear, buildings are modeled, structural elements are calculated. For our student employee Yaelle Wouters, this is not a school project, but part of her everyday work at Gruner. “The best moment is when an idea turns into something that will actually be built later,” she says with a smile.

Yaelle joined Gruner as a trained architectural drafter and wanted to move in a more scientific direction and become a civil engineer. Here at Gruner, alongside her studies, she can contribute to real projects and gradually grow into her new role, combining responsibility and creative involvement. Gruner supports and encourages her along the way. “I quickly realized that I’m trusted a lot and taken seriously as an employee.”

Women in technical professions: Early support is key

Technical and scientific professions shape our world. They require people who are attentive, understand connections, and find solutions that truly fit people’s needs. That is why they remain indispensable, even in an increasingly digitalized world.

Young women are still underrepresented in these professions — not because of a lack of talent, but often because of a lack of role models and support. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science highlights this and shows how important early encouragement is.

Confidence in their strengths paves the way for young women in engineering

At Gruner, we see the promotion of young talent as a long-term responsibility. Trainees are involved in real projects early on, their questions are taken seriously, and their strengths are developed in a targeted way.

“I feel that people here believe in me. That motivates me to keep going and continue learning”, was the feedback. This trust is a key factor in helping young women pursue their path in engineering with confidence.

On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February 2026, we emphasize what Gruner stands for: equal opportunities, genuine support, and trust in young women who shape the future with curiosity and expertise.
