Gruner Through Children’s Eyes: “What do you actually do?”
What do mum or dad actually do all day at work? We asked employees’ children to draw exactly that. The result: honest, surprising insights – full of imagination and offering a perspective on our work that often says more than any technical explanation.
We gave our employees who are parents a small task for their children: ask them to draw what you do all day at work! The result was overwhelming. What emerged were colourful, direct, and unfiltered perspectives on a world that often remains abstract. What delighted us especially: the children of our employees are every bit as creative as their parents.
The drawings show bridges, construction sites, and buildings – but also meeting rooms, conversations, and teams working together on solutions. Children don’t draw how something works in detail; they draw what they perceive: collaboration, movement, responsibility. And above all, that mum’s or dad’s work is important and meaningful. That’s exactly where the charm of this perspective lies. Complex engineering achievements become tangible because they are reduced to what really matters. It’s not about plans or calculations, but about what our work creates – for people, for places, for everyday life. At the same time, the drawings offer a very personal insight. They show that at Gruner, it’s not only about building, but also about thinking, discussing, and making decisions. And that behind every project are people who are passionate about what they do.
And perhaps these pictures capture it best: curiosity, ideas – and the next generation, already watching closely today. Who knows – maybe some future.
