On International Women’s Day: Building the Future Together
Many girls still decide against STEM subjects—not because they dislike maths and science, but because they doubt their abilities. Studies show that visible role models and targeted support make a real difference. This is exactly where Gruner takes action—not only on International Women’s Day.
In Switzerland, women make up around 20% of the workforce in STEM professions*—one of the lowest shares internationally. Yet the issue is often not a lack of ability, but rather a lack of orientation, role models and structural support. International Women’s Day highlights equal opportunities and inclusion—topics that, at Gruner, are not limited to a single day.
The Future Women Program
The Future Women Program is a company-wide initiative at Gruner designed to foster networking and professional development. It is aimed at women in leadership roles as well as colleagues who are preparing for their next career step. Internal peer coaching and workshops on leadership and management provide practical insights and encourage active exchange.
Grunerinnen: A Network with Impact
The Grunerinnen network emerged from the Future Women Program. It connects women across functions, locations and career levels. Construction manager Svenja Scherner is part of the network:
«The exchange has helped me position my role more clearly and openly discuss challenges and next steps.»

Starting Early: Inspiring Girls for Technology
Another key element of women’s empowerment at Gruner is the annual Future Day (CH) and Girls’ Day (GE). One important goal is to specifically address interested girls and inspire them to explore technical and engineering careers—because early experiences shape later decisions.
At Gruner, International Women’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on and further develop structures. Women should be able to actively shape their professional development. Because the future emerges where perspectives are given space—far beyond International Women’s Day.
