Electricity savings equal 14 households per year
In 2024, electricity consumption at all Swiss locations decreased by 8.2 percent – equivalent to the annual energy consumption of around 14 Swiss households. This was made possible by conscious behavior in everyday work and targeted technical optimizations at Gruner.
Employee at a Gruner workstation
5:45 p.m. in a Gruner office in Zug. The last project plans have been sent, a Teams call ends. An employee shuts down her computer, turns off the monitor, and flips the power-saving switch. In the neighboring office, the lights go out. Footsteps in the corridor, then silence. What sounds like routine adds up across more than 600 workstations – day after day. Employees deliberately switch on their power in the morning and consistently turn it off again after work. They do not leave devices in standby mode and use electricity only when they truly need it. This simple habit significantly reduces energy consumption outside operating hours.
Technical optimizations as a lever
In addition to employees’ commitment, targeted investments have been made. At the Basel site, Gruner replaced all floor lamps with energy-efficient LED technology. Several locations purchase green electricity, continuously increasing the share of renewable energy. Gruner also produces electricity on its own rooftops: The photovoltaic systems in Köniz, Oberwil, and St. Gallen already covered 6.6 percent of total electricity consumption in 2024 (previous year: 6.1 percent). The combination of everyday behavior and technical development is having an impact.
An 8.2 percent reduction in electricity consumption will not change the world overnight. But it shows that progress is possible when technological improvements and consistent action go hand in hand.
