The Zurich Children's Hospital by Herzog & de Meuron is inaugurated

After six years of construction, the new children's hospital in Zurich was inaugurated on Tuesday. Gruner played a key role in the project in a joint venture with Herzog & de Meuron.

This Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the new Children’s Hospital in Zürich-Lengg was officially inaugurated. The hospital is now the largest healthcare facility for children and adolescents in Switzerland and includes an acute care hospital as well as a building for research and education. It is the first hospital in Switzerland to be certified with the Platinum Standard by the Swiss Sustainable Building Council (SGNI), setting new benchmarks in sustainability.

“We are extremely pleased to be involved in such a once-in-a-century project,” says Gruner CEO Olivier Aebi. In a joint venture with Herzog & de Meuron, Gruner planned and realized the hospital over a period of more than 10 years. As a multi-specialist, Gruner's role included planning the building services technology and providing various services in the area of fire safety. “Hospital buildings are highly complex and require a great deal of expertise. I am delighted that we at Gruner can offer this to our clients,” adds Aebi.

The new Zurich Children’s Hospital will officially open on November 2, 2024, concluding six years of construction.
