Bridge competition Eglisau, Switzerland

The Gruner Business Unit Infrastructure Zurich, Brugg was awarded 2nd place among the 14 project proposals submitted.

The bridge over the Rhine is designed as a multi-span girder with V-shaped supports. The superstructure is designed as a composite structure with a steel box girder and concrete floor. The horizontal line is constructed in a constant radius of about 400 m and has a length of 440 m. The bridge length is divided into 6 sections with different spans. The largest span is over the Rhine and amounts to 160 m. At the place where the bridge spans the Rhine, the bridge is located about 30 m above the river. The total width of the concrete ceiling is about 11m.

Project assessment of the jury: "The structural concept is appropriate for the chosen height. The light steel construction allows a relatively simple assembly on the construction site and a shortened construction time. The bridge, which runs over five sections, appears as a unit in terms of design. Thanks to the strong horizontal expansion of the bridge construction, the bridge appears well-proportioned in its entirety".
