Baggage sorting system airport, Zurich

Fire simulation

The baggage sorting system at Zurich Airport is aging and needs to be renewed to ensure smooth baggage handling. In addition, new legal requirements for baggage screening and future air traffic demand must be taken into account in the dimensioning. For these reasons, the system is being rebuilt and the old system is being gradually replaced. With the help of CFD simulations, the smoke extraction of the baggage sorting system was designed to minimize smoke penetration into adjacent smoke extraction sections despite numerous horizontal and vertical penetrations.
