Fire Safety and Building Physics

Fire and smoke gas simulation

In the event of a fire, computer-based fire simulations are used to assess smoke gas propagation and temperatures. This enables the virtual investigation of a fire event.

We use so-called CFD models for our fire simulations. On the one hand FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) and on the other hand STARCCM+ from CD-adapco. STAR-CCM+ is a complete CFD programme for all questions of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.

This also enables the analysis of interior flows in the event of a fire on any complex room geometry.

Thanks to our computer capacities (computer clusters with over 200 processors) and the possibility of parallel computing, we are able to carry out fire simulations, including complex parameter studies, in a very short time.
