Schaulager Basel, Laurenz-Stiftung

Conversion of the art warehouse and administration wing

The imposing Schaulager, which is a much-admired contribution to the art world, needed additional space for its administration and art warehouse. The design architects Herzog & de Meuron, who had already been commissioned to realize the new building, were awarded the contract together with Gruner AG to realize the planning and execution of the extension and conversion work as a joint venture. For security reasons, the valuable art objects stored in the Schaulager were not removed from storage during the construction work. In addition to the architectural design and the coordination of the contractors, the focus during the execution of the work was on security-related issues and on accurate fine dust control.  The entire implementation of the project was made possible through intensive cooperation between the planning team, Schaulager and craftsmen. Through this conversion, Gruner AG was able to gain very valuable new experience and thus further expand its portfolio in the area of complex construction projects and projects in the public interest.
